Sher on Bijli
Lightening is a strong
manifestation of nature. In poetry, it is used as a metaphor for heart-shaking sound, burning the birds’ abodes, and rendering them homeless. This applies to the beloved’s behavior as well who ravages the hapless lover. Lightening, used in a variety of contexts, has emerged as an interesting concept through classical Urdu poetry. idhar falak ko hai zid bijliyāñ girāne kī
udhar hameñ bhī hai dhun āshiyāñ banāne kī
idhar falak ko hai zid bijliyan girane ki
udhar hamein bhi hai dhun aashiyan banane ki
bijlī chamkī to abr royā
yaad aa ga.ī kyā hañsī kisī kī
bijli chamki to abr roya
yaad aa gai kya hansi kisi ki
