This nazm is an extract from the book Dhoop Ka Dareecha . This would be amazing to note that even though this book was published in 1993, Jagjit Singh randomly picked this beautiful nazm from the then Urdu magazine “Shama”, way back before 1976 and made it part of his famous and path breaking album “The Unforgettable”, through which Jagjit blossomed in his career. Later, this song by Jagjit was also used in a successful movie “Grih Pravesh”.
बात निकलेगी तो फिर दूर तलक जाएगी
लोग बे-वज्ह उदासी का सबब पूछेंगे
ये भी पूछेंगे कि तुम इतनी परेशाँ क्यूँ हो
जगमगाते हुए लम्हों से गुरेज़ाँ क्यूँ हो
उँगलियाँ उट्ठेंगी सूखे हुए बालों की तरफ़
इक नज़र देखेंगे गुज़रे हुए सालों की तरफ़
चूड़ियों पर भी कई तंज़ किए जाएँगे
काँपते हाथों पे भी फ़िक़रे कसे जाएँगे
फिर कहेंगे कि हँसी में भी ख़फ़ा होती हैं
अब तो 'रूही' की नमाज़ें भी क़ज़ा होती हैं
लोग ज़ालिम हैं हर इक बात का तअना देंगे
बातों बातों में मिरा ज़िक्र भी ले आएँगे
इन की बातों का ज़रा सा भी असर मत लेना
वर्ना चेहरे के तअस्सुर से समझ जाएँगे
चाहे कुछ भी हो सवालात न करना उन से
मेरे बारे में कोई बात न करना उन से
बात निकलेगी तो फिर दूर तलक जाएगी
