log kahte haiñ yahāñ ek hasīñ rahtā thā
sar-e-ā.īna koī māh-jabīñ rahtā thā
vo bhī kyā din the ki bar-dosh-e-havā the ham bhī
āsmānoñ pe koī ḳhāk-nashīñ rahtā thā
maiñ use DhūñDtā phirtā thā bayābānoñ meñ
vo ḳhazāne kī tarah zer-e-zamīñ rahtā thā
phir bhī kyuuñ us se mulāqāt na hone paa.ī
maiñ jahāñ rahtā thā vo bhī to vahīñ rahtā thā
jaane 'fārūq' vo kyā shahr thā jis ke andar
ek Dar thā ki makīnoñ meñ makīñ rahtā thā

main jahan rahta tha wo bhi to wahin rahta tha
jaane 'faruq' wo kya shahr tha jis ke andar
