कुछ तो दुनिया की इनायात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
और कुछ तल्ख़ी-ए-हालात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
this world's benefaction broke my heart to some extent
and then by bitter circumstance partly my heart was rent
हम तो समझे थे के बरसात में बरसेगी शराब
आई बरसात तो बरसात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
showers of wine, I did think, would come with rainy clime
but alas when it did rain my heart broke one more time
दिल तो रोता रहे ओर आँख से आँसू न बहे
इश्क़ की ऐसी रिवायात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
no tears were permissible though weeping be the heart
in love's domain such cruel customs tore my heart apart
वो मिरे हैं मुझे मिल जाएँगे आ जाएँगे
ऐसे बेकार ख़यालात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
that she is mine, will meet me, that she will come to me
such idle pointless speculation too caused me misery
आप को प्यार है मुझ से कि नहीं है मुझ से
जाने क्यूँ ऐसे सवालात ने दिल तोड़ दिया
you love me or you don't, such queries when I make
I wonder why such questions cause my heart to break
