tamāshā-e-ahl-e-karam dekhte haiñ

bana kar faqiron ka hum bhes 'ghaalib'

tamasha-e-ahl-e-karam dekhte hain

ġhalatī-hā-e-mazāmīñ mat pūchh

log naale ko rasā bāñdhte haiñ

ghalati-ha-e-mazamin mat puchh

log nale ko rasa bandhte hain

ham ko ma.alūm hai jannat haqīqat lekin

dil ke ḳhush rakhne ko 'ġhālib' ye ḳhayāl achchhā hai

hum ko malum hai jannat ki haqiqat lekin

dil ke KHush rakhne ko 'ghaalib' ye KHayal achchha hai

hue mar ke ham jo rusvā hue kyuuñ na ġharq-e-dariyā

na kabhī janāza uThtā na kahīñ mazār hotā

hue mar ke hum jo ruswa hue kyun na gharq-e-dariya

na kabhi janaza uThta na kahin mazar hota

haiñ aur bhī duniyā meñ suḳhan-var bahut achchhe

kahte haiñ ki 'ġhālib' hai andāz-e-bayāñ aur

maut ek din muayyan hai

niind kyuuñ raat bhar nahīñ aatī
